Blackbird Cafe

Before the Smurfs 2 premiere, JL and I had some time to kill so we decided to find a place to have dessert. Both of us weren't familiar with what there was at Dhoby Ghaut cause we seldom go there so we were walking round cluelessly when we chanced upon this cafe. We were at The Cathay but none of the cafes there seemed super appealing so we decided to go back to Plaza Sing. While going back, we saw this cafe which I'm gona blog about today(:

So this cafe is really convenient to get to and easy to find(Yay to those with no sense of direction hehehe) It's located right next to The Cathay so you can't miss it! Originally, JL kept saying stuff like "Omg Angie, is this one of the cafes where adults go and have cocktails and stuff. This is so awkward." Yeah... that's my friend. If you're reading this, you know I love you but seriously HAHAHAHA.

The first thing I noticed was that there were tables outside the cafe and instinctively, I'm thinking if there's no seats inside I'm not eating here. I sound really pampered but it was sooooo hot that day and the point of us wanting to find a cafe was to enjoy the aircon (and food of course) so if we were to sit outside, that would defeat the whole purpose right? Thankfully for us, there were plenty of seats inside.

I thought the interior was done up pretty well. It's a little dull so it gives it a kind of modern vibe. Felt really cosy with the dim lights and all. I still prefer going to places which are 'bright' haha. Kind of lifts up your mood.

So we started reading the menu and I noticed that they had brunch(Heck yeah!) There weren't a huge variety of choices but there were your usual Eggs Benny, Pancakes etc. Nothing really stood out to me though cause it was very typical so I stuck to our original plan and had a dessert instead! There's weren't a lot of desserts too but one caught my attention. It was the Chef's Apple and Pear Crumble with Ice Cream and that was exactly what we ordered! This is actually the most expensive dessert out of the choices available but since we're sharing anw, might as well :D

Chef's Apple and Pear Crumble with ice cream($12)

Wasn't super pricey and definitely worth the money. Strongly recommend you guys to try it if you're a friend of Apple Crumble! The crumble was definitely the best part of the dish. It was crunchy and every bite was perfection. You could taste the sweetness of the apple and pear! Yum yum yum. As for the ice cream, you had a choice. The waitress recommended Vanilla but we got another flavour instead. I can't remember what the flavour was cause it's quite long but I know it had the word creamy in it. For those who wana try it, it's the ice cream flavour at the bottom right of the menu. It's doesn't seem like big portion but definitely is filling, Even though JL and I shared it, there was still a little left.

And JL ordered a drink too. If I'm not wrong, this is the Iced Mochaccino. Wasn't really paying attention when she ordered cause I was taking photos and using WA oops. I tried a sip and thought it tasted quite average.

The best part of the experience was definitely the Crumble so get it if you're going there!

The Smurfs 2 Premiere!

Hey guys! As I said this morning, I was out for a sneak preview event at The Cathay today(: I got 2 tickers from Churp Churp and brought Jia Lin along with me hehehe. I can't say anything about the movie because I'm not suppose to but all I'll say is, catch it when it's out!

The movie started at 4.30pm but before that, there was a pre movie event which started at 3pm. There were balloons, games and mascots! Too bad I didn't take a photo with the mascots but the queue was insanely long! And I'd feel weird even if I queue cause everyone in it was with tiny kids haha! The queue for balloons was equally long but it was so cute to see all the kids with smurf balloons. Speaking of Smurfs, which one is your favourite? Mine would be Vanity! He is so cute omg. Cuteness overload.

Everyone was actually required to deposit their electronic gadgets so during the movie, I didn't have my phone, Ipod and DSLR with me. Felt kind of weird being phoneless. Nevertheless, I definitely didn't get distracted by the constant vibration from it. Allowed me to really relax, sit back and enjoy the movie. We were seated quite front and in the middle. The movie was in 3D so the effects were super awesome! Always sit somewhere in front to get the full effect of a 3D movie. Just a small reminder, if you get giddy easily, you probably shouldn't sit too front for a 3D movie.

Can't say much about the movie so here are some photos of the event instead!

Everyone who went got a Smurf badge with different characters on it. I got the one with Vanity on it. Just nice since he's my favourite character hehehe.

Once again, huge thanks to Churp Churp for the tickets! (:

Winter Symphony

Haven't blogged for awhile so I thought I'd do an outfit post on what I wore in Hong Kong! I was actually reading through my post on CNY in HK (which you can read here) when I saw this outfit and thought that I should do a post on it since it was one of my favourite outfit to wear. Okay so what I love about winter is definitely the fact that you can wear knit wear, trench coats, boots and basically look all huggable and cosy. Too bad there isn't winter here but being the shopaholic that I am, I still give myself an excuse to buy winter clothes in Singapore hehehe.

What I love about this outfit is definitely the trench coat!!! I've been wanting one of this for so long but they tend to be a little oversize for me cause of my petite physique. Yeah it sucks to be short. But I came across this beauty when I was in Forever New last year! Took me quite some time to convince my mum to get it cause it was a little pricey. But yay! I finally got it and so far, it's my favourite winter jacket that I own. Let me share a little secret with you, I actually have more than 20 winter jackets hehehe. I always believe that a jacket is more important than a shirt because you're always wearing your jacket during this cold season and people remember your jacket, not your shirt. True story. You can be wearing the same shirt for 5 days but with a different jacket each day and your friends would think that you're wearing something different. Morale of the story: buy more winter jackets.

The best part of the trench coat is definitely the sewing at the waist. It has a very flattering cut and because of this, you get an effect where it's tighter at the waist then flares out from then on. Just look at the first picture and you'll know what I mean. It's almost like a tutu. Too pretty to miss!

I wore this ensemble for CNY house visiting so I wore heels to match the occasion :D This are the comfiest pair of heels I own. It's actually about 5" high but I can walk in them for hours. This is because of the thick heel. Nevertheless, it can get tiring if you walk around a lot but that's what all heels do to you doesn't it?

The dress I wore is from Chaceylove and I bought is because of the cloud prints featured. It just looked so dreamy and 'fluffy'. I knew I had to get it. The length is just nice for me too! Yay! The only downside about this dress is that the sewing at the waist is not even but since I was wearing a jacket over it, no one could tell. This dress is still in my closet and I haven't worn it for a few months alr hahaha. Oh well, I'm sure there'll be a time where I'll wear it again.

On a side note, I'm gng for Smurfs 2 sneak preview today and there will be a pre event! Bringing my DSLR along so do look out for a post on it which I'll probably be doing tonight!

HK Disneyland: Where dreams do come true

Hey guys! So the week has been absolutely depressing. For starters, I've been sick the whole week. I was down with a fever and suffered from throat infection. It was so bad I actually lost my voice. I actually nvr knew you could lose your voice from throat infection. Had to make a second trip down to the doctor today because it got worst. I'm not going to school tmr actually. To make things worst, my econs CA is on Tues and I'm alr prepared to fail it D: Sounds pretty depressing right? So I thought I'd do a post to cheer me up! And for today.... let's talk about Disneyland!!!

I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth! I've nvr come across someone who hates Disneyland. Even if they don't squeal at the thought of going there, I'm pretty sure Disneyland can cheer them up they minute the step in this magical place. It really is a place where dreams come true. I've always been a disney kind of girl so you can imagine my excitement about this post! I actually want to get married at Disneyland hehehe. Well or maybe have a party there or smth. I just want it to be Disney related!

Unfortunately, there isn't a Disneyland in Singapore. We only have USS and it doesn't even come close to it. Luckily for me, I am from HK so I go back there pretty often! I just went to Disneyland last year on 11 Dec. Yes I can rmb the exact date I was there just cause it means so much to me! I still vividly remembering spazzing out with my little bro even 6 months before we went to Disneyland. We were like 6 year old kids and we actually went to find out what rides they had, what food is a must try and how the hotel there was like. Before that, the last time I went to Disneyland was when in first opened and it was years ago.

Finally when the day came, we all got up pretty early and took the Disney train to Disneyland. There were other options available but we chose to take the Disney train because it was Disney themed and the most convenient way to go there. If you're planning on going to Disneyland, please take the train hahaha. The interior of it was soooo cute!! They had little figurines around and the windows were all mickey moused shaped! Even the handles were mickey mouse shaped. Even though the train was quite crowded, everyone just started snapping away cause most of them were tourist and when you're a tourist, you have the privilege of taking photos and not get judged. Well, we weren't exactly tourist but we jumped on the bandwagon anw and took a lot of photos!

Upon arriving, we had to walk quite a distance to reach Disneyland. However, it definitely was not a chore because there were so many pretty spots for a picture perfect moment. We originally planned to enter the minute they opened but obviously failed because we were too busy taking photos outside Disneyland. I still remember the adrenaline rush I experienced with every step I took that brought me closer to the entrance. Everywhere was just decorated so perfectly.

And finally, the time has come. We finally arrived at the entrance!!! I vividly remember holding my brother's hand and skipping to the entrance. That's the thing about Disneyland. It has a certain magical power to unleash the inner kid in you. Sometimes I wonder if we're all too caught up in our busy lives that we forget to let the inner kid in us out for awhile. Well there are lots of beautiful places to take photos after entering the entrance of Disneyland. My sister and I just dumped the camera to Rifdi and ran about asking him to take photos for us. We are so horrible hahaha.

The first thing we did was..... dum dum dum... to find food HAHAHA. We all skipped breakfast cause we were rushing to leave the house. We managed to find a stall that sold food such as pancakes and hot dogs near the entrance. To our delight, they were selling mickey shaped waffles!!!! Totally instagram worthy and worth trying.

Rifdi ordered a chicken thigh. Sounds quite heavy for breakfast but then again, guys eat a lot. And it was alr around 12 so I guess you could say he's having brunch. The chicken thigh is huge and really delicious actually. After trying his, my sister and I decided to buy 1 to share too!

(They provide plastic bags to act like gloves so that your hand won't get dirty!)

What else is Disneyland's food famous for? Their mickey mouse shaped ice cream!!! I always see it on instagram. I know it's nth much. Just ordinary vanilla ice cream with a chocolate coating but it's shaped like a mickey mouse! As expected, I got it just cause I could hehehe. Too cute to resist!

As you can see from the picture above, the seats looks like that! Kind of like an outdoor dining experience. Coincidentally, there were a lot of little birds there! At the table next to us, there was actually a small boy feeding the birds. It was so cute and guess which princess it reminded me of. And the answer is... Snow White! She's known for being able to talk to animals and having a certain connection with them that the other princesses doesn't have. I know this sounds silly but I felt like I was in Snow White's world. I could hear the little birdies chirp so clearly. It was almost as if they were singing. I probably felt that way because of the atmosphere but hey, I like living in my own little fantasy.

After our meal, we decided to go for some rides. Unexpectedly, just when we left the place, an announcement was made to remind visitors that a parade would be happening soon! It's as if everything was planned out. The parade was held right outside where we ate. So we decided to sit on the floor are see what was in stored!

The carnival was called Santa Mickey's Toy-riffic street party and it's directed at little kids. I'm sure all of you know there is always a parade at Disneyland but this workshop is different from that parade. At the end, the cast actually got small kids from the audience to dance with them. At that point of time, I wished that I was 3 so they would pick me! They even had snow flakes falling down at the end. I felt like I was cast away into some unknown, magical world.

The first land that we went to was Tomorrow Land. We chose that land to go first simply cause it was closest to us. Even thought it's been years since I've been to Disneyland, (I think I was 7) I still remember the amount of fun I had at Tomorrow Land! I remember screaming in Space Mountain, hearing the voices echo back at me and looking at our spastic faces when they took a photo of us on the ride. The 4 of us were all equally excited to ride on Space Mountain and that was the first ride we headed towards. The queue wasn't really long and we only needed to wait for about 10 mins. Yippy! The ride was actually not scary at all. There wasn't any drops. The only thing was that it was in the dark but that's what made it so awesome! The effects and all made you feel like you were in outer space!

After that, we took the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. This was one of my favourite because of what happened in there. Omg I laughed so much in this ride I actually cried. So basically you sit in 2s and each have a gun to shoot at the targets. You could turn the cart you're sitting in around as well for easier aiming. For some reason, the ride stopped in the middle and funnily enough, the target was right in front of me. I literally stood up, aimed and started firing like crazy. My score went up like mad!!! My sister and Rifdi were right behind us and were laughing and laughing at me. Oh and they said it was unfair but who cares! I won in the end :D So you can imagine it right? A girl standing up in her cart, being all rebel and firing at a target that was right in front of her face. I think it was only like 3m away from me. Woohoo! I won that game and that's that hehehe.

We then moved on to Fantasy Land which was my favourite land to take photos! As you can guess from the name of the land, it was a place for kids! The decorations were so princess ish! I shall let the photos do the talking(:

We then watched a show called The Golden Mickeys. All of us actually didn't know what to expect. We saw a crowd walking into the auditorium so we followed hahaha. If there's a show that's happening soon, might as well catch it. The show is pretty cute actually. It was a Golden Globe themed show so it talks about which characters won what. And of course, there were performances by all the characters as well! Unfortunately, we were seated at the last row because there wasn't anymore seats available. I actually stood on the chair to watch the show HAHAHA. Well I wouldn't be blocking anyone anw hehehe. So if you're gona watch these kind of shows and want to get good seats, you got to check out the timing and go there a little earlier to queue. My personal favourite was the Beauty and the Beast scene. Maybe it's cause I love Belle. I actually had her yellow gown when I was a kid :D But the scene was just too lovely. So here are some photos that I managed to take during the show.

(You can see Belle behind the screen, coming down the stairs!)

After that, we went for a ride that was in Fantasy Land. A must have in every Disneyland, the Mad Hatter Tea Cups!!! I still rmb the fun I had when I took it so many years back. I just love spinning the wheel to make the cup turn faster and faster. Can't say the same for my sister though. She can't take rides like this cause it would make her nauseous. So Rifdi, my brother and I took it! When we were queuing, we were trying to see which cup spun the fastest so that we would ride that one. They were all pretty much spinning at the same speed though so we just randomly got into one.

(One of my favourite photos from this trip. Just look at the smile on all our faces!)

We then went to Adventure Land. This was where Tarzan's treehouse was located. You basically take a raft to a treehouse and can walk up it. Nothing much actually. Kind of boring actually but I guess it's more for the adults who don't like to take rides. Well we went to the tree house anw and took some photos!

Oh we actually bumped into a few Caucasians dressed as pirates. I guess they were working there. They walked past me and scared the hell out of me HAHAHA. Ok but then one guy went "you're really pretty" and that made my day. Yeah my day is really very easily made.

Ok moving on... IT'S FINALLY TIME FOR THE PARADE. The famous parade held at Disneyland where all the characters would come out and dance. We managed to find a place to sit(thank god) and I was happily snapping so many photos.

(Too cute alr)

After the parade, we realised that we haven't really taken any photos with the characters yet! We went round looking for characters and found a place where all the main characters are at. I can't mb what it's called though. There was a queue to take photos. I guess that's what happens when you want to have a picture with characters such a Mickey and Winnie the Pooh. I think we queued for about 20 mins. Quite a long wait but it's ok! I really wanted a photo with them hehe.

(Winnie the Pooh actually opened the gate himself haha)

We then went to Toy Story Land. This ia actually a new land in HK Disneyland. The rides there were either really kiddish or super scary. It's like the whole spectrum hahaha. The kiddish rides were the kind that brings you round in circles and for the super scary one, imagine a viking ship just 10x faster. Well we didn't take any rides there but we did managed to take photos with Woody!

(Woody actually went to adjust the hat on my brother's head)

And finally, to the very last land. This is a new land to and it's called Grizzly Gulch. This place have the best roller coaster ever! Well it is a roller coaster but actually, there isn't any drop. There's only 1 backdrop and it isn't scary. What I like about it it's that it's really fast and it caters to those who can't take really scary rides(like me). We took the roller coaster twice actually and I wish we had time to take somemore but it was getting late ):

(Mickey mouse meringue. First time trying it actually)

It was getting quite late and we decided to go round pin trading! Don't know what pin trading is? Well let me tell you. Pin trading is a trademark of Disneyland. Basically, you buy a pin or set of pins from any Disney shop and you can trade it with the staff working there. It really is super addictive. My sister was actually like stalking staff to ask them if she could see her pins hahaha. Mind you, she's 21! Want to know a little secret? Some pins have hidden mickeys on it. A kind worker told us and he said that it cannot be bought. It is only distributed to the staff so yay to you if you found one! You can trade up to 2 pins with the same staff and the funniest thing is, they can't say no to you HAHAHA. We were wondering if they were cursing inside when we asked them for their pins. Oh yeah! Some of them are quite tricky. The purposely pinned their pins inside  out so that you won't notice it. We actually came across a girl who had a baby mickey, minnie collection! It was sooooo cute. We spent about an hour doing pin trading and it was so much fun.

I'm sure all of you know what happens towards the closing time of Disneyland. Fireworks! It was so pretty and I wish I could relive it all over again. Well technically I just have to go to Disneyland again but I'm not sure when the next time will be!

(My favourite photo of the fireworks!)

That's the end folks! Got to get back to studying Econs. Today is going to be a tough day but I can't wait to get the test over and done with.
