Black Illusion

Received this dress courtesy of Covet Runway about 2 weeks back and I'm so glad I finally had a chance to wear it out! Covet Runway is a new blogshop which sells lots of pretty apparels at affordable price. A few of my favourite are the dress that I'm wearing here and their classic baby doll dress!

I wore this to the scholarship talks earlier today and honestly, it's such a scholarship worthy dress haha! It looks really preppy because of the collar and was what attracted me to the dress! Moreover, I'm sure most of you guys know my obsession with layering but that's pretty much not viable in sunny Singapore unless I'm planning to stay indoors the whole time. This dress gives off the illusion of layering, but in fact, it's really just an additional collar to it!

The monochrome coordination also made the overall look more sophisticated in my opinion(: Smth different from what I usually own. My mum was saying how I look like a mini adult gng to work haha! Lengthwise, it could be a little short for taller girls but I guess that's all the more the reason for petite girls to get it right? Especially since it's quite hard to find suitable dresses for us nowadays.

Do check Covet Runway out and you can follow them on their instagram (@covetrunway) for more updates!

Hoshino Coffee

Hello everyone! How have you been? (: Pardon the mini hiatus and much thanks to those who come back once in awhile to see if I've updated anything. This week has been one heck of a week! Mid Years have started and in the past 4 days, I've sat for ~13h worth of exams and written a total of 12 essays. My exams haven't ended yet but it's definitely a huge sigh of relief to have gotten past this intense week!

Exactly 2 weeks back, my class went for Shakespeare in the Park! This year's experience was sadly, not as nice as the last one. I think it's largely due to the fact that we didn't study the Merchant of Venice so we didn't really understand what was going on. Last year's play was on Othello so we all knew the plot very well and I guess, could better appreciate and understand everything!

Well anw, before the event, Jolene, Lynn, Leeyin, Heyse and I met for dinner! We went to my all time favourite Hoshino Coffee! This is my third time there and I guess that says a lot cause I'm one for novelty and always try to go to somewhere I've nvr been to before. It's also one of the places Jolene and I both highly recommend.

No, those aren't by Hoshino Coffee but by our favourite baker, Jolene! Haha! She decided to bake for the picnic just like what she did last year(: Don't you just love having someone who loves to bake in your class!

And this is the reason why we're always back! So much love for this omg. It's basically curry claypot rice with mince beef, egg, broccoli and sausages. A huge fan of this especially since I'm a beef lover. We couldn't finish it though because the portion is actually quite big even though it might not seem like it.

And here's what Lynn ordered! I've nvr tried their pasta before. Reason being that I'm always eating the claypot rice hahahaha. But according to Lynn and Jolene, it was really good! Worth giving a shot if you're not too stoke on beef.

And because Heyse wasn't really hungry, we ordered dessert to share. Jo has been wanting to try this for such a long time because we've always seen others have it and it looks so good! That white ball on top isn't actually ice cream which took us back by surprise if I might add, but was cream instead! It was really good and I'm definitely going back another day for this!

I'm sure you've realised by now that the name of the place is Hoshino Coffee. They do sell a wide range of coffees and there were so many I wanted to try! I nvr did cause the claypot rice is always too filling but do let me know what you think of it if you do try em!

I'm quite sure this would not be my last time back here especially since it's in Plaza Sing. Just too convenient to get to alr!

Playnation

After having brunch at Ronin, We decided to head over to Dhoby area cause Rifdi wanted to try out Cups n Canvas' sweet potato latte! However, we were all pretty full so that had to wait for awhile. Just when we were driving over and deciding what we should do, we passed by Playnation and Rifdi suggested gng there to play some board games! I was super up for the idea cause I've nvr been to such a place before. I've always talked about gng to places such as Mind Cafe but nvr got about doing it.

The very first game we played is Police and Thief. This game requires you to think. A lot haha. So basically you choose a person to be a thief and there's a board which shows you all the possible routes the thief can take. The rest of the players are the police and they have to track down the thief. There are different transportation the thief can take and those are subway, taxi and boat. I'm not really sure how to explain it cause it's quite a complicated game haha! But thank god for the staff there who knew how to explain it.

The next game we played was a lot more straight forward and it's called Slapagories! This has got to be my favourite game of the day cause it got me laughing till I cried hahaha. There are basically 2 decks of cards. 1 deck with alphabets and another deck with a topic. You just have to think of a word related to the topic starting with the alphabet that you've opened to win that round! So basically we just have to open both decks at the same time and smack the table if we know the answer. It's really funny cause the answers we came up with are so ridiculous! So there was this one round where the letter we opened was 'H' and the topic was wedding. Guess what my wonderful sister said. *cues drum roll* Hair. So anti climax right! Well yah it's kind of true but whaaaaaaaaat. Haha! Oh btw, I won most of the rounds hehe.

The third game we played was quite an interesting one too and I've nvr actually heard or seen it before. It has a chinese name and at first I was a little apprehensive cause it seemed like it'd be chinese checkers or smth hahaha. Ok but when the staff explained it to us, it was nth like that at all! There's a deck of cards which will be distributed to the players. Each card looks different because there are different types of paths on it. Some might have straight paths while other might be a u-turn or a diagonal one. The aim of the game is basically to force other players out of the board by connecting the cards tgt to form paths.

After being to Playnation, I've been telling all my different groups of friends that we should head over to such places during the holidays cause it's just so worth it and so much fun! It was $9 per person for 4h from 2-6pm that day cause it's a weekend. But if you go on a weekday, it's only $6+ for 4h if I'm not wrong and there's free flow of drinks! Definitely going to go back there someday!

Ronin

One of the more hipster cafes in Singapore has definitely got to be Ronin. It deserves more recognition because the concept and food there is one of the best I've had. When I was telling my friends about Ronin, I must say that I wasn't exactly shocked that most of them have nvr heard of the place even though they constantly check out brunch places. Even I have nvr heard of the place when Rifdi told me about it.

Went out a few weeks back with Rifdi and my sister to Ronin cause Rifdi wanted to play the big brother (not complaining but loving it) and treat me to a nice meal after being brave at the dentist haha! Ronin is really convenient to get to unlike most brunch places. It's about a 5 mins walk from Clarke Quay MRT station.

After getting off the car, we started walking to the cafe. I didn't even know that we walked pass it until Rifdi told us! The place is so hipster it doesn't even have the cafe's signboard. Their signboard is more of a logo.

See what I mean!

Well anw, after entering, Rifdi's occupational hazard started to kick in and he was praising the interior design of the place. Apparently his boss or his friend (can't rmb) played a part in designing the place and lots of effort were put into it by the cafe's boss! He ordered some kind of pipe which was different from the usual ones cause he wanted to paint it black. And in order to do so, you have to have some machine to drill tiny holes in the pipe so that the paint will stay (?) Smth like that! Most of the time, all i was hearing was ....black....pipes....rare...overseas haha!

The cafe is really dim as well which makes taking photos a little difficult. Nevertheless, we used the night mode on our camera to snap some photos! The waiters are all really friendly as well and of course they are given the fact that they interact so much with the customers! Ronin works on a no menu concept so in a way, it force the waiters to talk to us cause they have to recite the whole menu haha!

Quite an interesting method to ensure that customers feel more 'at home'. They only had 3 dishes and they're basically toast with scrambled eggs, sandwiches and french toast. Rifdi was saying how if they only have 3 dishes, they better be good and turns out, they were! Hands down one of the best brunch place I've been to so far.

Toast with Scrambled Eggs

Here's what Rifdi and I ordered! Always up for scrambled eggs when it's time for brunch! I chose to have the portobello mushroom for the side while Rifdi chose mutton sausage. I love have there's tiny bits of sea salt in the egg. For the sausage, the mutton taste is quite strong so you'd definitely like it if you're a mutton lover. I'd recommend this dish if you're checking the place out!

French Toast

Another really delicious dish there. I've nvr had such good French Toast before! I'm not kidding. This is definitely better than the one I had at Chock Full of Beans. The price is quite reasonable as well! It was $9+ if I rmb correctly. My sister chose to have sliced apples with it and boy was it yummy. It's usually served with bacon but Rifdi can't eat that so she changed em!

And here are our drinks! They're Wicked, Cafe Latte and Flat White respectively. Wicked is basically a combination of mocha and mint. Quite an interesting drink but a little too bitter for my liking. Not a huge coffee person.

Oh and here's me trying to look sophistcated hehehe

Do pay Ronin a visit if you're looking to check out a new place!

Dinner with relatives!

Last Friday, I met up with my aunt and cousin who flew to Singapore for a short trip! They both stay in HK and I haven't seen them for quite some while. I wasn't really feeling well that day and didn't go to school actually but I still went for dinner cause I knew it would be a really long time till I see them again.

Headed to Vivo with my little brother on our own first! He helped me take my ootds (as usual hehe) while waiting for my sister! It was ridiculously hot that day and we perspired so much that we took really little photos. It was to the extent where we couldn't be bothered if the photos turned out nice or not cause we just really wanted to go back to the mall for air con haha! So here are some more presentable ones(:

Ran back to the mall and went to Crystal Jade for dinner!

Ordered a few other dishes too but didn't bother taking a photo of them cause we were all just starving and all we want to do is eat hehehe. Really short post today cause I'm beat from the events today which I'll blog about soon!

PS. Can you tell my bangs are shorter? Finally allowed my sister to cut it and am so glad it isn't poking my eyes anymore hahaha

Indie Drapey

A miracle happened and I wore pants out! Recently I've been on a craze hunt for pants which is really unlike me. I only own 1 pair of jeans and they've been with me since sec 2 haha! There's just smth about PJ pants that has always captured my attention. I guess it's just cause they look so comfy and the idea of lazing around clicks with me.

Decided to try on this pair when I saw it cause it's cropped! Normally, pants tend to be too long for me and I rarely come across cropped PJ pants. So glad that I tried cause they fit perfectly! Got this pair from Cotton On for only $19+ for those interested! Cheap thrills hehe. Haven't shopped from Cotton On for more than a year actually!

Paired it with the highly raved AFA Campbell Tee Top which has finally arrived from BO! The problem with BOs is that they take such a long time to arrive and usually, I'd have forgotten what I got by then #confession haha! Still glad I joined the BO cause this is a really good basic to own! It features a key hole back button for easy wearing.

Went for a monochrome kind of look so I chose black and white accessories as well. So how do I look in pants? Haha! Thinking of buying more PJ pants now!

April Updates

1. Amore
So I've signed up to be a member at Amore. Amore is basically a fitness place with a gym, pool and classes ranging from kick boxing to pilates. I've been going there really often and coincidentally, found out that Shericia and Xin Lin are members too! Sher and I actually bumped into XL one day when we went for Jazz class haha! Such a coincidence but I'm so glad I have them as my Amore buddies!

2. Good Friday!
I went out shopping with Ben and Jo on Good Friday! Such a nice way to spend this holiday(: We went out to Orchard and went into every shop possible haha! Had so much fun with my girls. Ben left earlier though cause she wasn't free at night so we didn't manage to take a group photo. But here's one of Jo and I!

3. PW Results
And the fateful day has finally arrived... I wasn't really nervous getting back my results cause I did have faith in my group and all of us honestly, did a pretty good job for our WR and OP in my opinion. I only started to get nervous when Jo started crying when they were giving the usual speech on stage haha! I hate it when teachers have to drag the time. Like I just want to get my results and go home. Haha! Ok well but good news! My whole group got an A for PW! Mr Tsui walked pass us and said "10 down, 80 more points to go" Haha!

4. Ronin
Checked out a really hipster cafe with Rifdi and my sister! This is currently, on top of my brunch list. They serve the best brunch ever!!! Well that I have tried at least but more on that soon!

5. Baking date with the siblings
The Yip siblings decided to try out our new oven and baked some red velvet goodness! The cupcakes didn't turn out as well as we had expected it to but we realised our mistake only after baking them. Better luck next time I guess!

6. Easter
Had a really fun mini easter egg hunt during Lit! The Lit teachers organised this lit related hunt where we basically have to solve Lit related problems in order to collect eggs! One example would be how we had to spot 3 lit devices in a poem stuck on an egg. It was a really fun time and definitely, the best lit lesson so far!

7. The Coffee Daily
Decided to check out this brunch place near school with Jo, Lynn and Hui Jie! Their pretty rainbow cakes are really what made the decision for us to go. After seeing it, we knew we had to try it! More on TCD here

8. Will Run
I've also just blogged about Will Run so I shan't say more!

9. Wear Your Own Clothes Day
Every year, SR organises a wear your own clothes day. It's quite a cool event cause it's smth different. I don't know of any other JC who does this actually. We could even invite our teachers to wear our school u too! It was definitely funny seeing our teachers dress up as students. Some of them totally blended in and I probably would think they were students if I didn't know their true identity haha!

10. OOTDs
